Chemical Peel

Put simply, a chemical peel involves applying an acid solution to the face to resurface the skin, remove dead skin cells and stimulate the growth of new ones for improved texture and tone.

Chemical peels harness the power of naturally occurring acids and active ingredients to deeply exfoliate the skin, stimulate collagen production, and new cell growth and turnover, for more radiant, younger-looking skin.

The acid removes a uniform amount of damaged skin cells across the treatment area.

Chemical peels can affect two layers of the skin, the epidermis and the dermis. The epidermis is the visible outer layer, and the dermis sits just beneath.

Who is a good candidate for a chemical peel?

Generally-speaking, if you are keen to improve the look of fine lines, skin texture, pigmentation and scars, and don’t mind the prospect of a procedure that might involve downtime, then a professional chemical peel may be right for you.

That shiny new layer of skin may also need time to adjust to a skincare routine. “After a chemical peel, we are rapidly exposing new skin that is very vulnerable and sensitive,”

Avoid using any actives in your skincare for at least a week and keep the regime simple with a gentle cleanser followed by a gentle moisturiser and a broad spectrum sunscreen.

Benefits of chemical peels

  • Clearer, younger-looking, more radiant skin
  • Dull skin is revived
  • More even skin texture and tone
  • Appearance of fine lines and wrinkles is reduced
  • Skin feels softer, smoother and more hydrated
  • Pigmentation and the signs of sun damage are corrected
  • Inflammation and breakouts caused by acne are reduced

For the best results for your skin, our dermal therapist recommends a personalised course of skin peels depending on your skin type and condition.

Are skin peels painful?

No. Most patients only experience a mild tingling. Serious side-effects from skin peels are extremely rare, but could include problems such as infection or scarring.

Are there any risks related to peels?

Yes, as with any aesthetics procedure. Expect some tingling and itching at the time it’s applied, followed by a tight sensation afterwards. With the deeper peels, scarring, infection and discolouration is extremely rare, but can occur.

What is the recovery time?

Light peels usually take 1-3 days for healing, while medium peels take an average of 7 days. Deep peels can take a few weeks.
